Custom Engineering & Development of Emergency Resourcing of Engine Cooling Components
A tier 1 automotive manufacturing customer contracted Hitech Shapes & Designs, a division of Seilkop Industries, Inc. to design and develop a Sinto/DISA compatible 20" x 24" shell mold pattern after their original plastic component failed when exposed to heat. The thermostat housing components as shown below were machined from 4140 steel employing our high speed vertical milling equipment, maintaining the tightest tolerances of ±0.0005”. We were able to achieve the exacting machining tolerances of all tooling for fit and function, without flash. The completed pattern featured multiple core boxes and assembly fixtures, exhibiting a .2 micron machined to 1 micron hand polished finish. No secondary finishing methods were required due to the fine surface left by our high speed milling technology.
The tooling was subjected to full dimensional and functionality testing to ensure quality and integrity. The produced thermostat housing component measures 4" x 6" x 4" after casting, as specified by the customer supplied 2D/3D CAD drawings. Turnaround time for this project was 3 weeks, shipped to the customer in Cincinnati, OH.
